Case Study

Communications Infrastructure in Master Planned Urban Developments

BSE delivers communications engineering services across residential, mixed use, and master planned developments, where reliable connectivity is essential to building operation and user experience. In these environments, telecommunications infrastructure must be carefully coordinated with architectural design, nominated service providers, and existing network conditions.

Effective communications outcomes rely on early coordination, an understanding of provider requirements, and the development of practical, buildable infrastructure that supports long term connectivity. The following project demonstrates how BSE applies this approach within a complex multi-building residential development.

East Village 2D Vila

  • 01

    Overview

East Village is a master planned community in Cannon Hill, Brisbane, integrating residential living with retail, public space, and transport connectivity. Stage 2D Vila comprises an eight-storey mixed use development featuring 137 residential apartments, ground-level retail, three interconnecting buildings, shared basement car parking, and rooftop communal facilities.

BSE provided communications engineering design services for the development, with responsibility for coordinating telecommunications infrastructure across the interconnected buildings.

    Communications Challenge

A key challenge for the project was the presence of adjacent existing infrastructure serviced by an alternative network provider. This required detailed investigation to identify existing telecommunications conditions and define appropriate interface requirements across the site.

Ensuring the development was appropriately provisioned for the nominated provider required alignment with provider-specific standards, while also responding to the constraints created by the existing network environment and the multi-building configuration.

    Design Approach

BSE developed a communications infrastructure design that addressed these constraints through the coordination of pathways, communications rooms, risers, and lead-in infrastructure across the development. The design was aligned with nominated provider requirements, ensuring the development was prepared for future installation and commissioning of telecommunications services.

Careful coordination across all buildings ensured a consistent infrastructure framework while accommodating the architectural layout and shared site conditions.

    Outcomes

The completed communications design was coordinated and approved by the nominated provider, establishing a structured framework to support telecommunications infrastructure across the development.

This project demonstrates BSE’s capability to deliver coordinated communications solutions within multi-building developments, integrating provider requirements and existing network conditions into practical, buildable outcomes.
