After a successful FY2026 and a busy few weeks wrapping up the financial year, our National Financial Controller, Amber Jansson, has finally had the chance to reflect on the year that was.
Amber has been a valuable addition to #TeamBSE since joining in August 2025. Over the past year, she has focused on getting to know the business inside and out while strengthening the finance function and supporting better decision-making across the Group.
In her EOFY Recap, Amber reflects on the financial result, the factors that contributed to FY2026’s performance, and the two key areas that made a clear contribution to the year’s outcome. It’s a story of stronger capability, commercial discipline, and building the foundations for sustainable growth.
Read Amber's full EOFY Recap below, including a preamble from our CEO, Andrew Fraser.
FY2026 Reflection
Preamble
Andrew Fraser, CEO
FY2026 changed the shape of BSE.
The Group delivered a strong result while simultaneously building the executive capability and discipline required for its next phase of growth. This was achieved despite persistent cost pressure, intense competition for experienced technical people, changing client expectations and uneven conditions across the property and construction sectors.
Against this backdrop, BSE bottom-line growth performed well ahead of internal expectations. The result reflects the strength of our client relationships, the depth of our technical teams, and the confidence placed in BSE to deliver increasingly complex work across Australia.
We strengthened our executive-level capability across Business Operations, HR, People and Culture, and Finance, adding focus, accountability, and experience.
FY2026 has strengthened my confidence in BSE’s position. The financial result tells part of that story. More importantly, it shows the strength of the platform now taking shape.
EOFY Recap
Amber Jansson, National Financial Controller
The confidence expressed by our CEO is supported by a year in which stronger financial performance was matched by deliberate investment in BSE’s future.
As I approach my first year with BSE as National Financial Controller, my focus has been on building a strong understanding of the business, strengthening the finance function, and supporting strategic decisions across the Group. I have also valued the guidance of National Finance Director Nicki Fraser, as well as the support and alignment of our senior leadership team. Their commitment to continuous improvement and long-term thinking has strengthened the business and positioned it for future growth.
The FY2026 result is a strong indicator of BSE’s market position. More importantly, it was driven by the quality of the work secured and the capability required to deliver it, rather than growth for its own sake.
Two areas made a clear contribution.
First, BSE continued to secure larger and more complex projects across building services, Acoustics and ESD. These appointments reflect the confidence clients and industry partners place in our technical capability, project leadership, and ability to support projects from early design through to delivery. As project demands increase, our combination of specialist expertise and whole-of-project thinking gives clients clearer accountability, stronger coordination and fewer interfaces.
Second, BSE continued to invest in organisational and technical capability. This included our people, leadership, systems and operating processes. Each investment was made with a clear purpose: to improve delivery, strengthen management information and build the capacity required for national growth.
The improvement in earnings was particularly significant. It reflected close attention to cost control and commercial discipline while continuing to invest in future capability. Managing both priorities well is central to bottom-line sustainability.
The result also reflects the daily decisions made by BSE’s teams across project selection, scoping, resourcing, delivery, billing and cost management. Their commitment, together with the trust of our clients and industry partners, provided the foundation for the year’s performance.
BSE closes FY2026 with stronger leadership, a more complex project portfolio, expanded capability and improved financial foundations.
The priority for FY2027 is clear: convert our stronger platform into consistent, sustainable performance while maintaining discipline, investing in capability and protecting our client relationships at the centre of BSE’s business.
