TeamBSE - Out & About

BSE’s Brisbane team enjoyed a thrilling evening of flexing their competitive muscles as they zoomed around a go-kart track at Kingston Park Raceway recently.

Congratulations to Cameron Webb for taking first place! Fergus Mactaggart in second and Peter D’Astuto in third.

A busy year so far, our teams have been working hard, spending an evening relaxing and having plenty of laughs was a great break opportunity.

Welcome to Phil Lucas

The BSE QLD continues to team expands as we welcome Phil Lucas!

Phil joins BSE’s Hydraulic services team in Brisbane, bringing over 32 years of experience. Over this time, Phil has delivered designs and projects in major sectors including health and scientific research, primary, secondary, and tertiary education, defence, residential and retail, Phil’s outstanding experience in all facets of hydraulic services adds huge depth to our talented team.

 Outside of work, Phil enjoys a quality red wine, preferably Pinot and Shiraz, also single malt whiskey with good food and better conversation – balanced of course with plenty of movement and veggies.

Throwback Thursday | INTERMAIN's New Adelaide Office

We’re bringing back this series to highlight the incredible work our teams’ do on projects throughout the year!

On a recent visit to Adelaide, Godfrey Frederick dropped past INTERMAIN’s new office, with Orlando Cavuoto, and chatted with Alex Stone about how the change has improved the work experience for the INTERMAIN team.

BSE’s Adelaide team partnered with INTERMAIN to provide services design and documentation for the space. Providing documentation for all services, the space provides INTERMAIN with communal and breakout spaces, meeting room and workspaces.

Opened in 2022, INTERMAIN now have an abundance of natural light, functional work areas, meeting rooms and amenities giving space for further growth!

Throwback Thursday | Cannon Hill Kmart Plaza

One from the archives!

An upgrade 40 years in the making! Cannon Hill Kmart Plaza opened first in 1973, partnering with GroupGSA, BSE Brisbane’s team delivered designs to enhance the facility internally and externally, completed in 2020. This centre continues to be a bustling retail feature for the local community.

BSE’s team delivered documentation and design for mechanical, electrical (including external feature lighting), fire, hydraulic, fire protection, data and communication services. The upgrade spanned external and internal areas, including new entry awnings, pylon signs and entry statements, carpark upgrade, internal mall area and amenities upgrades.

Throwback Thursday | New Homes in Narrabundah

Our Canberra team recently re-visited this project and snapped us some current photos. We love a good throwback project, particularly when the site has settled in, and the landscaping has had some time to develop.

BSE partnered on this project with All Star Electrical, Millennium Heating Cooling, Amalgamated Property, MILIN Builders with architect DBI, to deliver mechanical and electrical design and construction services for this residential development in Narrabundah. Comprising of 177 units across apartments and townhouses, basement carparking and good facilities for occupiers with gym and top-notch common areas.

Adjusting spatial norms and working with limited ceiling space (particularly in the basements), our design team creatively ventilated the basement carparks with a reticulated solution and used duct droppers to the basement levels. Always coordinated, these droppers ensured supply and exhaust grills were compliant and functional for the space. Partnering with the contractor and design team, our services were coordinated within limited spaces, proactive advice and adjustments during construction to end with a simple, well-coordinated and functional design.

 As the holy month of Ramadan comes to an end, we extend our warmest wishes to all those who observed it. Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and community, and we have been honoured to witness the resilience and devotion of our Muslim team members and friends throughout this time. Empathy, kindness, and generosity that are at the heart of Ramadan, values and priorities we can all benefit from!

 For those who fasted during the month, congratulations on completing this act of devotion. We hope that this Ramadan has brought you closer to your faith, and that the lessons learned during this time will continue to guide you in the months ahead.

Island Paradise – Senior Management Workshops

During March, senior management were together for BSE’s annual Strategic Workshops. This year the team escaped our major cities for warm and sunny Hamilton Island, the trip included a healthy balance of hard work, eating, laughing, swimming, planning, golf cart driving, strategizing, and a splash more laughing. These workshops allow our senior team to plan for short- and long-term priorities which improve how our teams work and deliver projects, setting up and growing our incredible teams and the continued sustained growth of BSE.

In reflecting on the workshop, CEO, Andrew Fraser shared:

‘Building on our strong 2022 workshop, we have ramped it up this year! The cracking group of people we have heading up TeamBSE came in with game faces on and the outcomes we have reflect this’. 

Directors and Managers brought back the outcomes and shared directly with each of our teams, ensuring we’re able to take everyone on the BSE adventure.

Welcome (back) to Geoff Taylor

This year, BSE have been delighted to welcome Geoff Taylor back to our community.

Bringing exceptional experience across large commercial, medical, and hospital, sports facilities and fields, stadium lighting, and industrial and logistics facilities, Geoff’s knowledge enhances the strong existing capabilities of our electrical teams across the country.

 Geoff worked with BSE for many years (about a decade ago) and we’re ecstatic to welcome him back.

 As always, we ask our new starters to share a fun fact, and in this case, Geoff is a self-described competitive junkie – he’s spent years playing and coaching Soccer (Football) as well as racing cars and yachts.

In welcoming Geoff back to TeamBSE, Andrew Fraser, CEO, said:
