We are pleased to announce that Peter D’Astuto, Senior Associate, has been appointed to Interiors & Refurbishment Lead – QLD.
Cameron Webb, Director – QLD, commented on Peter’s elevation, saying:
“Peter’s appointment is a great reflection of the strength and depth of our Interiors & Refurbishment team. We have built a talented group of professionals in our Brisbane office, with strong leadership across each discipline. I’m excited to see Peter take on this role and continue supporting the success of our I&R offering, delivering exceptional outcomes for our clients and strengthening our capability across Queensland.”
Supporting Peter in his new role are the I&R discipline leads: Jason van Koersveld (Mechanical), Alex Radford (Electrical), Douglas Neufeld (Hydraulic), and Allen Taylor (Fire Protection).
Peter joined BSE in 2017 as a Graduate Mechanical Engineer, bringing a passion for HVAC&R and a commitment to practical, client-focused engineering. Since then, he has built extensive experience across a diverse range of building services projects, delivering innovative and sustainable outcomes tailored to client needs. Along the way, Peter has become a trusted leader and mentor, building strong relationships with clients and colleagues while supporting the growth of our Queensland team.
BSE delivers specialist engineering and consulting services across the full spectrum of building services. Our Interiors team specialises in fit-out and refurbishment projects, bringing together multidisciplinary expertise to deliver coordinated solutions across a range of sectors. By integrating building services with design intent and focusing on practical solutions that are efficient to operate and maintain, particularly within live or constrained environments, the team helps clients achieve successful project outcomes.
To mark the occasion, we sat down with Peter for a Q&A about his journey at BSE, the value of BSE’s dedicated I&R team, and life outside of work.
What has your journey at BSE been like so far?
It's been great! I've been exposed to so many different aspects of building services, which keeps my mind busy. The team we have is great and is always supportive, which works both ways, as I try to support them
in where they want to be. The company has evolved over the nine years I've been here, but the DNA remains the same, which is what I love.
Can you tell us more about your career?
I started off at BSE doing the work experience component for university and didn't really know what to expect. That was nine years ago, and it's only when I'm talking through past projects that it really hits me how many projects and buildings I've worked on.
How does a dedicated I&R team benefit clients?
Having a team with experience in existing buildings is super important. Walking onto a site at the beginning of a project and being able to decipher the sins of the past, then making it someone's workplace or a landmark venue, is something that's great when the project gets over the line. With existing buildings, the amount of space is finite, so we have to make the building fit for purpose and compliant. Being fluent in not only the current Australian Standards, but also the superseded standards, is something else that tends to come with a dedicated I&R team.
What can BSE’s clients expect when working with you?
Practical solutions, a straight-talking approach, and a drinking buddy (after the project is completed, of course).
What types of I&R projects do you enjoy working on most?
For me, it's workplace and hospitality projects. Workplace is great because at first it's a bit of a hunt to find all the information needed for the existing site conditions, then being able to deliver the project and have the end user walk in and be happy with where they work.
Hospitality venues are great because I love food and love going to places I've worked on. They're also a bit more complicated than workplace projects, which keeps the mind active.
What accomplishments are you most proud of professionally?
Becoming the I&R Lead is probably number one. It's something that I've been working towards for a while, and I'm fortunate to be in this position where I can keep the team growing and delivering quality.
What’s Peter like outside of work?
Cars and motorbikes are my passion. I enjoy driving and riding, but most of my free time is spent fixing them.
Mostly, though, I enjoy spending time with my fiancée (wife as of 1 August!) and getting up to mischief with her.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us, Peter. Congratulations from all of us at #TeamBSE
