Who We Are

A national team of engineers and consultants delivering design‑led solutions for high‑performing buildings.

Overview

A National Engineering Consultancy Built on Partnership

BSE is a 100% Australian owned engineering consultancy established in 1994. We are a national practice of over 100 people delivering building services engineering, supported by specialist disciplines, across public and private sectors, including workplaces, health, education, defence, and entertainment.

We approach every brief by understanding context, constraints, and client priorities. Robust engineering is paired with design sensitivity, so systems integrate confidently within the project vision. Sustainability, constructability, and whole-of-life value guide our decisions.

All BSE designs are developed in Australia to consistent standards. We remain accessible throughout delivery, respond quickly, and check our work twice before it leaves our hands, providing clarity and confidence at every stage.

Our work is delivered through Buildings and Interiors teams. Buildings manages end-to-end engineering for whole projects, while Interiors focuses on fit-out and refurbishment, ensuring services support architectural intent and are practical to operate and maintain. Across both teams, services are delivered in a coordinated and buildable way.

Our Credentials

Affiliations and Certifications

BSE maintains recognised industry certifications that support quality, safety, and consistent delivery. We also hold professional affiliations and contribute to broader industry and community initiatives as part of our ongoing commitment to best practice.

    How We Deliver

A Practical Approach to Better Outcomes

Our approach to delivery is grounded in partnership, technical depth, and practical decision‑making. We focus on clarity, coordination, and accountability throughout design and delivery, so engineering solutions perform as intended in use, not just on paper.

This informs how we work with clients, integrate specialist expertise, and embed sustainability into everyday engineering decisions.

    01.
Engineering Partners from Brief to Delivery

We work as trusted engineering partners through design and delivery, providing clear scope, proactive communication, and early engagement. This approach creates certainty around fees, programme, and outcomes, supported by Australian‑based design and rigorous quality review.

    02.
    Integrated Specialists, One Coordinated Team

Our projects draw on specialist expertise across all building services disciplines, delivered through a single, coordinated team. This ensures focused technical input where it matters, while maintaining clarity, efficiency, and accountability across the project.

    03.
    Sustainability Built into Engineering Decisions

Sustainability is embedded in our engineering decisions. We assess whole‑of‑life cost, evaluate payback, and prioritise measures that deliver measurable environmental and financial value, tailored to each project’s objectives.

What We Do

Engineering Solutions from Concept to Completion

BSE delivers specialist engineering and consulting services across the full spectrum of building services. Our work is delivered through Buildings and Interiors teams, supported by multidisciplinary specialists working together as a coordinated delivery group.

Mechanical

We design HVAC and ventilation systems that ensure comfort, indoor air quality, and safe extraction where required. Solutions range from central chilled water plants to packaged systems, controlled through intelligent BMS strategies. We balance occupant comfort, energy efficiency, and maintainability, while coordinating layouts so plant integrates with architecture and structure.

Electrical

We provide power distribution, emergency supply, metering, and electrical systems that are safe, resilient, and energy mindful. Designs incorporate future-ready metering and provision for renewables and storage. We model loads, assess running costs, and design electrical systems for reliability and long-term flexibility.

Hydraulic

We deliver water, wastewater, stormwater, and gas systems designed for efficiency and resilience. Services include potable and heated water, rainwater reuse, non-potable systems, sanitary drainage, trade waste, stormwater, and gas systems including natural gas and LPG. Our hydraulic designs reduce water use and lifecycle cost, integrate stormwater management, and comply with authority requirements.

Fire Protection

We design wet and dry fire protection systems in buildings to suppress and contain fires, protect occupants, and support safe egress. Systems include water-based and alternative suppression, hydrants, hose reels, detection, and smoke management. Our solutions are performance-based where appropriate, coordinated with stakeholders, and certified by accredited practitioners to meet statutory and insurer requirements.

Sustainability

We embed Ecologically Sustainable Development into practical engineering choices. We model energy and water performance, evaluate renewables, and recommend fabric and systems solutions that reduce carbon and operating cost while improving occupant wellbeing and compliance with rating tools.

Acoustics

We provide acoustic engineering and vibration mitigation services to support speech clarity, speech privacy, and acoustic comfort. Our expertise spans architectural acoustics, mechanical plant noise control, and environmental noise assessment. Using computational modelling, we test and specify solutions that align with design intent.

Vertical Transportation

We design lift, escalator, and moving walkway systems informed by traffic analysis, operational requirements, and user needs. Our solutions prioritise performance, accessibility, safety, and maintainability, while optimising shaft, plant, and building space. Vertical transportation systems are fully integrated with building circulation, fire and life safety, and security strategies.

BIM

Our BIM and digital design capability delivers fully coordinated, information-rich 3D models that reduce on-site risk and improve project certainty. We use Revit, Navisworks, and leading collaboration platforms to support coordination, sequencing, and handover ready models that add long-term value for owners and operators.

Communications

We design passive communications and security infrastructure that forms the backbone of modern buildings. Our scope includes structured cabling, fibre backbones, communications rooms, containment, pathways, and integrated security and access control systems that support voice, data, and wireless technologies. Our designs emphasise scalability, resilience, and maintainability to ensure reliable performance and adaptability over the life of the facility.

Lighting

Lighting design that supports safety, functionality, and architectural expression. We use daylighting strategies, efficient LED luminaires, and smart controls to create atmospheres, highlight form, and reduce energy. Our lighting integrates with building controls, so spaces perform intuitively for occupants and managers.

Audio Visual

Our AV specialists design fit-for-purpose systems for collaboration, presentation, and performance. From boardrooms to auditoria, we integrate AV with networks and power, ensuring reliability, usability, and upgrade paths as technology evolves.

Explore how our specialist services are integrated to deliver coordinated, buildable systems across a wide range of projects.
