Communications engineering delivering resilient, future‑ready building infrastructure.

Overview

Communications Infrastructure for Connected Buildings

Communications engineering provides the physical infrastructure that enables digital connectivity, security, and smart building systems. BSE specialises in the design of passive communications and electronic security infrastructure, including structured cabling, fibre backbones, containment, and communications spaces that support client networks and technology platforms.

We develop scalable backbone and distribution architectures, coordinating pathways, risers, and equipment locations to ensure capacity, segregation, and long-term flexibility. Integrated security systems such as CCTV, access control, intercom, and duress are planned as part of a unified communications strategy to deliver reliable and consistent performance.

Communications rooms and rack layouts are fully integrated into the building design and coordinated with electrical and mechanical services to provide compliant power, earthing, and thermal conditions. Wireless and mobile coverage is supported through dedicated passive infrastructure and antenna provisions, ensuring reliable operation and future expandability.

The result is resilient, future-ready infrastructure that is straightforward to operate, maintain, and upgrade, reducing risk and whole-of-life cost.

Communications Case Study

East Village 2D Vila – Communications Infrastructure Coordination

  • 01

    Project Overview

BSE provided communications engineering design services for the Stage 2D Vila development within the East Village master planned community in Brisbane. The project comprises an eight-storey residential development featuring 137 apartments, ground level retail, three interconnecting buildings, shared basement car parking, and rooftop communal facilities.

  • 02

    Communications Engineering Scope

BSE was responsible for the design and coordination of telecommunications infrastructure across the development. The scope included development of compliant pathways, communications rooms, risers, and lead-in infrastructure to support residential and retail connectivity requirements and align with nominated provider infrastructure standards.

  • 03

    Key Challenges

A key challenge was the presence of adjacent existing Opticomm-serviced infrastructure, requiring detailed investigations to identify existing network conditions and interface requirements. The project required careful coordination to ensure the development was appropriately provisioned and aligned for future network installation.

    Outcomes

BSE successfully coordinated the communications infrastructure design and obtained approval from the nominated provider. The completed design provides a coordinated telecommunications framework supporting residential, retail, and communal facilities across the development.

This project demonstrates BSE’s capability to deliver communications infrastructure solutions for multi-building developments, integrating provider requirements and existing network conditions into practical, buildable outcomes.
