Overview

Supporting a National Retail Portfolio Across Australia and New Zealand

BSE has partnered with Bunnings Group to deliver building services and sustainability consulting across more than 150 projects throughout Australia and New Zealand.

The engagement spans new store developments, expansions, refurbishments, and independent peer reviews, supporting Bunnings’ extensive network of large-format retail facilities.

As part of this programme, BSE supports initiatives aimed at improving building performance, energy use, and operational efficiency across the portfolio.

Our Role

Building Services Delivery Across New Developments and Existing Assets

BSE provides mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fire protection, and sustainability services across the programme, with scope tailored to the requirements of individual projects.

Our work includes supporting new developments as well as upgrades to existing store infrastructure, with a focus on improving system performance, operational reliability, and compliance.

A key component of the programme has been the development and implementation of photovoltaic (PV) systems across multiple sites. This work commenced with pilot installations before progressing to broader rollout across the network, incorporating micro-inverter technology to support performance across large-format retail buildings.

BSE also supports the assessment, design review, and delivery of building services upgrades, including HVAC and ventilation improvements, lighting upgrades, and electrical infrastructure works, contributing to consistent performance across the portfolio.

Outcomes

Consistent Performance Improvements Across a Large Retail Portfolio

The programme has supported measurable improvements in building performance across multiple Bunnings stores, including reduced reliance on grid-supplied power through the integration of photovoltaic systems.

At Bunnings Geraldton, a 100 kW solar installation comprising 384 rooftop panels contributes approximately 18% of the store’s energy demand, demonstrating the approach applied across the broader rollout.

The breadth of projects delivered highlights BSE’s capability in supporting large-scale retail portfolios through coordinated building services design, upgrades, and performance initiatives. These works contribute to improved operational efficiency, compliance, and long-term functionality across a geographically diverse network of stores.
