Overview

A New Chapter for a Historic Parramatta Road Site

Suttons Homebush involved the refurbishment and expansion of a landmark automotive site at 112 Parramatta Road, Homebush. Occupying approximately 7,000 square metres, the site has a history dating back to 1943 and has long been associated with Sydney’s automotive industry.

The project transformed the existing facility into a comprehensive dealership incorporating vehicle sales, servicing, and spare parts operations. Extensive modifications and renovations were undertaken throughout the site, including upgrades to the ground floor showrooms, expansion of servicing areas, and reconfiguration of external parking and display areas.

The completed development includes a new vehicle showroom accommodating up to 16 vehicles together with forecourt space for approximately 60 used vehicles.

Our Role

Engineering for a Working Dealership Environment

BSE was engaged by BHI Architects to provide mechanical, electrical, and fire protection engineering services for the project.

Our involvement extended from preliminary design through to construction, supporting the redevelopment of the site while ensuring the facility could meet the operational requirements of a contemporary dealership environment.

Working closely with the design team, BSE developed coordinated engineering solutions that integrated new services within the existing facility while supporting ongoing functionality, compliance, and operational efficiency.

Outcomes

Improving Compliance and Operational Performance

A key challenge emerged during site investigations when BSE identified deficiencies in the existing fire services coverage within the mezzanine level.

The issue presented a significant compliance challenge for the project. Working closely with the broader project team, BSE developed and implemented a code-compliant strategy to address the fire services coverage shortfall while supporting the wider refurbishment works.

The resulting solution improved life-safety outcomes, mitigated operational risk, and ensured the dealership could proceed with confidence that the upgraded facility met the required standards.

BSE is proud to have contributed to the transformation of a longstanding Parramatta Road automotive site into a modern dealership supporting vehicle sales, servicing, and customer experience for years to come.
