Overview
Supporting World-Class Touring Productions
Cirque du Soleil is recognised globally for its large-scale productions that combine acrobatics, live music, theatre, and visual storytelling to create immersive audience experiences.
BSE has supported Australian Cirque du Soleil productions since 2024, including Luzia and Kooza, providing acoustic consulting and noise management services for performances in Sydney and Brisbane.
Performed under the iconic Grand Chapiteau (Big Top), the productions transform temporary sites into large-scale entertainment venues that attract thousands of patrons throughout each season. BSE’s acoustic assessments supported planning approvals, event operations, and compliance requirements for venues at Moore Park in Sydney and Eagle Farm in Brisbane.

Our Role
Acoustic Planning, Monitoring, and Compliance
BSE provides acoustic consulting services throughout the planning, approval, construction, and operational phases of the events.
Our role includes development application acoustic assessments, construction and operational noise impact assessments, noise management planning, compliance monitoring, and acoustic reporting.
For Luzia, BSE prepared the acoustic assessment that established the acoustic framework for future Cirque du Soleil events at Moore Park. The assessment considered temporary venue construction, live performances, public address systems, mechanical plant, generators, and audience activity associated with operation of the Big Top venue.
At Moore Park, the venue accommodates audiences of up to 2,500 patrons per performance. The assessment considered a range of operational noise sources, including amplified music, crowd noise, air conditioning plant, and event infrastructure, while also addressing potential impacts on nearby residential and commercial receivers.
The work extends beyond live performances, covering both the temporary construction activities required to establish the Big Top and ancillary facilities, and the eventual dismantling of the venue at the conclusion of the season. Compliance measurements are undertaken during dress rehearsals and live performances to verify performance against approval conditions and adopted acoustic criteria.

Outcomes
Balancing Entertainment and Community Expectations
Temporary entertainment venues present unique acoustic challenges, requiring amplified sound, live music, audience activity, mechanical plant, and supporting infrastructure to operate within established urban environments.
Through acoustic planning, compliance monitoring, and noise management strategies, BSE has helped support the successful delivery of Cirque du Soleil performances while balancing the needs of performers, audiences, event operators, and nearby residents.
For the Sydney season of Luzia, compliance monitoring undertaken during live performances demonstrated compliance with approved acoustic criteria and council approval conditions. The experience gained through these assessments has also supported future Cirque du Soleil productions operating under the Moore Park approval framework, including Kooza.
From the dreamlike, water-inspired world of Luzia to the energy and spectacle of Kooza, BSE is proud to play a behind-the-scenes role in helping bring internationally acclaimed live entertainment experiences to Australian audiences.
