Condition Audits for a Major Sports and Entertainment Venue in Newcastle
Located in the heart of Newcastle, McDonald Jones Stadium is a major venue for sport and entertainment. Home to the Newcastle Knights (NRL) and Newcastle Jets (A-League), the stadium hosts regular sporting fixtures alongside large-scale concerts and events.
The venue has accommodated performances by international artists including Elton John, Paul McCartney, and Pink, reinforcing its role as a key destination for major events in the region. Maintaining the safety, reliability, and performance of building services is critical to supporting ongoing operations across a diverse event program.
Our Role
Building Services Condition Audits and Lifecycle Assessment
BSE was engaged by Venues NSW to undertake comprehensive condition audits of building services installations at McDonald Jones Stadium.
The audits covered electrical, mechanical, fire protection, and hydraulic systems, including detailed assessment of plant and equipment condition, identification of risks, and evaluation of remaining asset life.
BSE provided commentary on system performance, compliance status, and required rectification works, enabling informed decision-making for maintenance planning and budget allocation over a five-year period.

Supporting Operational Performance and Long-Term Asset Planning
The audits provided Venues NSW with a clear understanding of the condition and performance of building services, supporting safe and reliable operation of the stadium across sporting and entertainment events.
The structured reporting enables prioritisation of maintenance and upgrade works, contributing to ongoing operational continuity and performance of the facility.
This engagement forms part of BSE’s broader work with Venues NSW across New South Wales. In Newcastle, this includes the Newcastle Entertainment Centre and Showground, where BSE has also undertaken building services audits to support ongoing operation of these multi-purpose venues.
The Newcastle Entertainment Centre has hosted major touring acts including Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Taylor Swift, reinforcing its role as a significant regional entertainment venue alongside McDonald Jones Stadium.
